Jane Eyre

On Thursday, I went with my mother to see Jane Eyre. It was a really great adaptation! It captured perfectly the eerily beautiful, tragically romantic tone of the book. It was a lot better than the PBS one, although I did enjoy it. Mia Wasikowska is a perfect Jane. She really captured the depth of the character, and she's just so lovely. Mr. Rochester was really well-played too, and Judy Dench was in it, so of course it was fabulous.
I've always been in the habit of dressing up when I go to a show, and this was no exception. I'm old fashioned, and I hate seeing kids going to the theater looking like bums. And I don't just mean to the movies. I've been to stage shows and seen people in jeans and tees. I might just be that old fashioned, but you should dress up for a stage show a little more. At least slacks, nice shoes, and a pretty cardigan.

Enough of my rant, though! Here's a shot of my hair and jewelry. The earrings and necklace are from Forever21, the ring is from Heart E, and I'm also wearing a headband I crocheted myself.

Here's my outfit. You can't really tell here, but the dress is unbuttoned at the hips and I'm wearing a pale lilac skirt underneath it. The shawl I'm wearing is a wide scarf that I pinned at the chest, and tied behind my back to form a sort of bolero effect. I really like wearing the scarf in this style! It makes me feel so elegant.
Scarf, dress, skirt, and tights: Target
Shoes: Fergie (not really a fan of her music, but she designs cute shoes!)

Here is another close up of the necklace, which I think is just beautiful, and the vintage pin I used to hold the scarf together.

Here you can kind of see the layering, and a sort of better view of the shoes as well.

And a last makeup shot. I'm actually wearing lipstick this time.

Thanks for reading~!

Antique Market

On Sunday, I went with my mom to the Long Beach Antique Market for the first time ever. I had been wanting to go for a long time, but just never got around to it. I definitely think I will go back next month, maybe by myself or with someone who won't get bored as easily. Mom wanted to go home pretty early, and I could have stayed until it closed.

Since I didn't stay long, I didn't bring home too much of a haul, but I will share what I bought!

First, these two lovely items, a tarnished sterling silver ring and a vintage pin. The pin looks like it might have at some point had chains dangling off of it. I'm guessing they were most unfortunately ripped off at some point, due to a horrible accident. In my mind, the horrible accident involves a child grabbing onto the chains and pulling with a might that kids only ever seem to possess when they are intent on destroying something that doesn't belong to them.

Obviously, this sort of thing has happened to me before.

Here is a close-up of the ring.

The next thing I bought was this beautiful cloche. I'm not sure exactly how old it is, or if it's original or a replica. It's definitely not made the same way cloches are made today, it has a net lining on the inside, which I've never seen in commercially sold cloches from, say, Forever 21.

Here's me wearing it. Please ignore my sunburnt nose. ;_; Yes, my hair is quite a big long for a cloche hat, but I still think it looks nice, if not 100% authentic. I will be cutting my hair short in June though, so hopefully it will look a little better!

And my final purchase was this dress. Again, not sure exactly how old it is, but it's quite pretty, I think. My mom doesn't like it at all. But me, I like librarian clothes. :P

Here's a close-up of the top part.

I hope to put together a coordinate with it and take pictures fairly soon! Maybe on a day when I'm just sitting at home reading by myself and I feel like playing librarian.

Thanks for reading!

A Gift

On Fridays, I have a Life Management class with my friend, Dalina. Typically, after class we get something to eat and go out on the town and spend money when I should be saving up for the swap meet I want to go to this weekend. Today was no exception!

For lunch, we had Tea Station. I ordered a Royal Iced Milk Tea (Earl Grey), and the House Noodles with deli plate. The plate came with tea-boiled eggs (not a fan of boiled eggs, obviously), seaweed, tofu, and some sort of meat. It was really good. Usually, Dalina asks for some soy sauce with it, and they give her little tiny packets. When I asked for soy sauce today, the gave me a little bowl of it. I say "little bowl", but it was kind of a lot of soy sauce.

Afterward, we headed to Forever 21. I'm really broke right now, so I didn't buy anything, but if I had the money, I would have bought this cute raccoon shirt! Isn't he precious?

I also really love these shoes. I might actually have to go back for them!

Outfit and accessory shot for today. Tank top, socks, and shoes are from Target, skirt, cloche, and belt from Forever 21. The F21 necklace in the second picture, Dalina bought for me. ;3; I love my friend!

Puppy!

I found a stray puppy the other day. The poor thing was huddled up against my car tire for warmth, so I lured him into the backyard with bacon. At first he was afraid to let me too near him, and wouldn't let me pet him, but now he's running around the backyard, jumping, and playing, and following my brother and I everywhere. He loves belly rubs the most.

I'm sad because we probably won't be able to keep him. On Monday, I'm going to have to call animal control to come pick him up. I hope they'll take him to a no-kill shelter. I'd press my dad harder about keeping the dog, but we really can't afford another animal, with a cat and a guinea pig already. Plus, my old bag of a cat hates him, and she takes priority, being an old lady. Oh, well. Hopefully he has a microchip and they can find his owner, or if not, at least find him a good home. I don't think he'll have problems finding a home, he's such a cute, playful dog. He's the perfect dog for a family with pre-pre-teen kids like my brother.

Also, if anyone recognizes him, please let me know! He seems to be a mutt, is medium-sized, has no collar, grey patches on his hindquarters, brown eyes, is not neutered, and very active! He was found in the Lakewood Area of Southern California.

Something I wrote

Once upon a time, there was a girl who hated stories that began with ‘once upon a time’, and ended with ‘and they all lived happily ever after’. She never quite understood what, precisely, once upon a time meant. She presumed it meant something along the lines of ‘this story takes place at some unspecified point in time’. “Well, of course it takes place in time,” she would think to herself, “Where the hell else would it take place?” And, being a very sensible kind of girl, she knew that it was impossible for everyone to live happily ever after, and to insist otherwise was to tell an outright lie, and she could not abide by lying, for she had be raised to always tell the truth. “It would be much more accurate to end a story with ‘and the protagonists lived happily ever after, whereas the villain did not’,” she argued with herself, “Or even ‘the antagonist lived happily ever after and the protagonist suffered abominably.’”

This girl’s name was Scoot. Or at least that’s what she assumed her name was, because from a very early age, all she remembered was the people in the big house where her mother worked yelling “Scoot!” at her.

~

I would really like to turn this into a story. I've already got some ideas, but I'm not sure exactly where to go with them.
